Why is it needed? |

Additional feedback, background or context: This is a feature available in Content Store currently and is a significant loss in functionality for customers wanting to switch to Brand Store. Fields are often named in the data model to distinguish between brands, product lines or channels for internal users, but simpler field names are required for clarity to end users.
This feature will be part of the new Store Admin for Brand Store v2 that will be released in the later parts of Q4. Users that are configuring a store will be able to rename the fields that have been selected to use a different name than what is used in the PIM portal.
